Aqualand Marina Commemorates History on Lake Lanier

Aqualand Marina has made history as the world’s largest inland marina, but is mostly recognized for more historical events. The marina is situated on Lake Lanier, a manmade reservoir created by the construction of the Buford Dam, which was completed in 1956. The dam harnesses the waters of two rivers- the Chattahoochee and the Chestatee, which both start in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Power generation and recreational activity both began on June 15, 1957, making it a historical U.S. landmark.
